The Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications from exceptional candidates for one full-time, tenured position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning August 1, 2024. This position will be 60% research, 30% teaching, and 10% service. Responsibilities are research, teaching, and student mentoring. The candidate will teach around 2 courses per year. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Professor and with the intent of holding the Howard G. Buffett Foundation Endowed Chair in Conflict and Development. The endowed chair part of the appointment will be reviewed for continuation at five-year intervals.

The holder of this position will be an emerging or prominent scholar in the field of conflict and development, drawn from the fields of agricultural economics, development economics, political economy, economics, or other disciplines related to the subject. The holder will foster and substantially participate in advancement of understanding of the relationships between conflict, agricultural productivity, economic development, societal welfare, productivity of capital in its various forms, and other aspects of economics applications and theory. The incumbent will lead programs for undergraduate and graduate studies on conflict and development in the Department of Agricultural Economics, possibly involving other departments.

Research areas may include, but are not limited to implications of conflict and development status on:
• Food security, welfare, economic development, environmental degradation, land and water use
• Poverty, production of illicit drugs, migration, human trafficking, and national security
• Agricultural productivity, technological change, and pockets of hunger
• Availability and productivity of human, institutional, natural, financial and other forms of capital.
• Ability to adapt to environmental conditions including climate.

The Chair is expected to perform research and provide research-based information on conflict related issues for fragile states or states enduring or emerging from conflict as well as for international and domestic groups/agencies. The holder will demonstrate significant achievement and commitment to the advancement of the welfare of communities enduring conflict or emerging from conflict.

Other duties are to participate in guidance of the student media photo-journalism program related to development and conflict and providing information to the US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command under an existing memorandum of agreement.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. degree is required in agricultural economics, development economics, political economy, economics, or other disciplines related to the subject. Demonstrated experience involving economics, and international development with some concentration on conflict related issues is desirable.
