Call for Abstracts: Research Workshop on Expanding Opportunities Through Economic Development and Workforce Development Initiatives
Co-Hosted and co-sponsored by the Center for Workforce and Economic Opportunity at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and by the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research
Kalamazoo, MI
May 21-22, 2018
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
1000 Peachtree Street,
Atlanta, GA 30309
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together a select group of researchers to share their current unpublished research on issues related to economic development and workforce development. The workshop is designed so that researchers can meet others doing similar work, receive comments from distinguished scholars in the field, and explore possible journal outlets for their work, including the peer-reviewed Economic Development Quarterly. A relatively small number of papers will be selected so that plenty of time is available for presentations and comments. Selected authors are expected to present draft, unpublished papers at the workshop, with copies made available to participants.
The workshop will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and lodging and meals for one author of each paper will be provided to those selected. Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expenses. Those selected to present their research should be prepared to stay for the entire workshop, which begins with a dinner on Sunday evening, May 20, and adjourns around noon on Tuesday, May 22.
Discussants will be selected from prominent university faculty and research staff members from the Federal Reserve System. In addition, representatives from the editorial team of Economic Development Quarterly will participate at the event.
This workshop seeks papers along three tracks of study: (1) Understanding the effectiveness of economic development strategies; (2) Changing economies and labor markets; and (3) The link between economic development, workforce development, and antipoverty efforts.
