Faculty Recommendations of Journal of Economic Perspectives Articles for Classroom Use
Chris Fleisher
In February and June 2018, the AEA asked members to share whether and how the Journal of Economic Perspectives (JEP) is used in the classroom. We were delighted to receive 250 replies suggesting hundreds of JEP articles, and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond.
The purpose of this email is to communicate what we have done with the feedback. The Summer 2019 issue of JEP contains a short article "Some Journal of Economic Perspectives Articles Recommended for Classroom Use," which provides an overview of the project. We divided the recommended articles into 33 categories, some matching typical classes and some subject categories. The 33 categories are listed at https://www.aeaweb.org/journals/jep/classroom. Click on any of the categories, and a list of JEP articles that were recommended in that area will be shown along with links to the articles.
As we note in the short overview article, "[W]e make no pretense of suggesting or providing a complete syllabus for any specific course. We offer only the milder hope that these recommendations from peers might suggest some additional readings for your students." In this spirit, we hope that the list is useful for faculty members who are finalizing reading lists and updating lecture notes for the 2019-2020 academic year.
