AEA Annual Elections

The election for 2027 officers is now open. If you have not yet voted, please look for the election email containing your voting link and take a moment to cast your vote. If you have not received the election email, check your spam folder for messages from aea@intelliscanvotes.com and add this address to your safe senders list. Election reminders are sent on behalf of the AEA by Intelliscan, Inc., an independent election services provider contracted by the AEA. Casting your vote or choosing to opt out electronically will prevent further reminders.

AEA Editor Transitions

The AEA Executive Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Larry Samuelson of Yale University as the new lead editor for AER: Insights beginning September 2026 and Alessandro Bonatti of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the new lead editor for AEJ: Micro beginning January 2027. Both new editors were appointed after extensive searches that included input from the membership. The Association thanks outgoing AER: Insights editor Matthew Gentzkow and AEJ: Micro editor Navin Kartik for their outstanding efforts devoted to making the AEA journals among the most respected scholarly outlets in economics.

AEA Journals Partner with Refine

The Association has entered into a partnership with Refine to use its AI-assisted technical verification tool on papers that have received or are under serious consideration for a revise and resubmit decision. The tool will be used as a technical check only; it will not be used to assess contribution or importance or to screen submissions en masse.

Refine maintains a zero-data-retention commitment with its providers, and materials will not be used to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any machine learning model. Authors who participated in a recent AEA pilot of the tool were overwhelmingly in favor of incorporating it into the process for identifying technical mistakes. Authors will be provided with the AI-generated feedback and are encouraged to selectively address only those suggestions they find useful.

AEA Accessibility Survey

The AEA Executive Committee appointed an ad hoc group to design, administer, and analyze a survey of AEA members to determine their views on accessibility issues in the profession, with an eye to determining how the AEA could encourage best practices in accommodating them at various levels. New Best Practices for Economists Video Series

The AEA and the Committee on Professional Climate (CPC) are pleased to announce a new four-part educational video series designed to make the Best Practices for Economists resources even more accessible and actionable. The series brings the Best Practices framework to life with practical guidance for fostering professional, respectful, and inclusive academic and workplace environments.

The first installment, Leading Departments and Workplaces, explores strategies for building positive workplace cultures, supporting colleagues, and strengthening leadership at every level. Watch the video and learn more about the initiative. Three additional videos highlighting other core areas of the Best Practices framework will be released in the coming months.
