AEASP: Academics
Two Levels of Study*
AEASP at HU offers two academic levels to meet the needs of participants. All students will receive eight weeks of training in math, microeconomics, econometrics and research methods with leading faculty in Economics and across the University.
"I feel better prepared for my first-year [PhD] courses and AEASP sparked a research idea I plan to pursue. I also met a great cohort of fellow students, fellows, professors, and other economists.” --Chika Okafor |
Foundations Level: For students exploring the possibility of graduate study, or needing to enhance their mathematics and economics skills to successfully complete advanced undergraduate courses leading to graduate training.
Advanced Level: For students seeking to hone advanced skills in mathematics and economics, facilitating placement and success in rigorous PhD programs.
*Student placement will be based on pre-tests and individual assessments.
Program Intensity
Remember the saying, “Work hard, play hard?” AEASP adheres to this philosophy with a little twist—Play hard, work harder! Participants should expect to be challenged, have some long days, and perhaps even feel a bit overwhelmed. That’s why it’s called intensive.
The good news is that AEASP provides plenty of opportunity for fun, including recreation and travel, as well as a collaborative, supportive sense of community. No student will journey through AEASP alone. Students will work in teams with peers, establishing collegial relationships that often last a lifetime. And AEASP faculty, graduate fellows, mentors and staff are all committed to helping each student succeed.
The schedule is demanding and camaraderie is encouraged; as such, visitors can’t be readily accommodated. Students should plan to attend all AEASP courses, seminars, and excursions. Leaves of absence are rare and must be approved.
